Herbert Diess becomes Executive Chairman of the Board at The Mobility House

Diess succeeds Alexander Landia, an energy market expert who has held the position since 2017, at the technology company for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and intelligent charging. According to the press release from The Mobility House, Landia will "continue to contribute his outstanding energy market expertise to the company" as an ordinary member of the Board of Directors.

The appointment of former BMW and VW board member Diess is a coup for the company, which was previously known primarily in eMobility specialist circles – TMH itself speaks of a “significant milestone in the realisation of V2G by The Mobility House.” Since its creation in 2009, the company has been committed to the transformation towards a sustainable and efficient energy and mobility future.

Herbert Diess has repeatedly spoken out in favour of vehicle-to-grid applications in the past. Some of the MEB models planned under his leadership now have a bidirectional charging function, even if the actual introduction has been repeatedly delayed. During this time, there were also various contacts between VW and TMH: both companies (in the case of VW via the charging subsidiary Elli) are among the founding members of the “Bidirectional Charging Initiative” launched in autumn 2021.

Diess himself says he is looking forward to shaping and accelerating the disruptive transformation of the energy ecosystem together with TMH. ”The strongly advancing expansion of wind and solar energy requires significantly higher storage capacities and flexibility in the future energy system. The rapidly growing fleet of electric cars, which is used on average for less than one hour daily, is already the world’s largest electrical energy storage,” says Diess. “To use this to optimize the power grids and thereby offer electric car users significantly lower energy costs is the vision for the future that I share with The Mobility House. This will benefit drivers, manufacturers, energy providers, and, in particular, the energy transition can be significantly accelerated. The Mobility House has developed market-ready solutions for this, which can now be delivered to customers in collaboration with automakers and energy providers.”

”We are excited to welcome Dr. Herbert Diess, a pioneer and visionary in the field of electromobility, to The Mobility House. We are united by our vision,” says TMH founder and Delegate of the Board, Thomas Raffeiner. “Our gratitude also goes to its predecessor, Dr. Alexander Landia, who has been a valuable guide to us in the past and has significantly contributed to the success of the company with his dedication. He will continue to support us as a member of the board of directors.”

TMH’s qualities in the vehicle-to-grid sector are well known. The company has not only implemented several pilot projects together with energy suppliers and car manufacturers, ranging from bidirectional charging to second-life battery storage, but is already marketing around 100 MWh or 4,500 stationary 1st and 2nd-life vehicle batteries in Germany, France and the Netherlands. These batteries are used in energy and power markets as well as in various products. At the same time, The Mobility House already intelligently manages more than 1,700 charging locations worldwide with its ChargePilot charging and energy management system.

In addition to his new position as Executive Chairman at The Mobility House, Austrian-born Diess remains Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Infineon.
