Japan¡¯s Nissan Motor Co. is mulling receiving batteries from South Korean battery maker SK on Co. for its production in the United States, according to a media report.

Yomiuri Shimbun reported Friday that Nissan will include the information in its three-year mid-term management plan that will be announced soon.

Nissan currently uses batteries manufactured by a Chinese company. EVs produced with Chinese batteries, however, are not eligible for tax benefits under the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Nissan, therefore, is re-considering its supply chain that includes the Korean battery maker, Yomiuri newspaper said.

Nissan is also considering joint procurement of parts with Honda Motor Co. as part of its plan to strengthen partnerships with other companies to increase price competitiveness in the EV market, it said.
